From Black Sea Phytoplankton checklist

The preparation of taxonomic list for the Black Sea phytoplankton species with the agreed geometric shapes and other relevant information is very important task. Within the EU project Black Sea SCENE, Institute of Biology of the Southern Seas National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (IBSS) together with Institute of Marine Sciences Middle East Technical University Turkey (IMS METU), developed the tool to manage Black Sea Phytoplankton checklist.

The species description is stored in the form of wiki text in mediawiki content management system (MediaWiki is free server-based software which is licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL)). The key species information like taxonomy, distribution, biovolume etc. is stored in the form of templates. All other necessary information and media (images, films etc.) can be added by registered editors to the species page using simple wiki text markup.

Species pattern:
Each species included in the Black Sea phytoplankton checklist has the special description pattern where the following parts are included:

• Taxonomy* mandatory
• Description,
• Formula,
• Images(media)

The only mandatory part is the filled taxonomy template. All other parts can be skipped and filled later when appropriate information is available.

The preliminary list of species was taken from: A.S.Mikaelyan, L.G.Senichkina, L.A.Pautova, L.V.Georgieva, V.Dyakonov Cell volumes of phytoplankton of the Black Sea

Formulas was taken from: Yu.V.Bryantseva,A.M.Lyakh, O.V.Sergeyeva. Calculation of biovolumes and surface areas of Black Sea microalae. - Sevastopol, 2005. - 25 p. (Preprint. / NAS Ukraine. Institute of Biology of the Southern Sea).

ATTENTION

In case you've discovered a new taxon (species, subspecies, etc.) for the Black Sea, inform us and we will gladly add it to the Black Sea phytoplankton check-list. Please, attach photos (light microscope or SEM) of the newly discovered species with description, sizes and when and where it was found. If this taxon is already described and published, then give us reference and/or link to this publication. Without photos a taxon will not be considered valid to add tho the check-list.

Если Вы нашли новый таксон (вид, подвид и т.д.), то сообщите нам и мы с удовольствием включим его в наш чек-лист Черноморских видов фитопланктона. Пожалуйста, приложите фотографии (световые или СЭМ) вида, с описанием, размерами и указаниями где и когда он был обнаружен. Если таксон уже описан и опубликован, то укажите ссылку на публикацию. Без фотографии вид не будет считаться валидным для включения.
