Original description (Proshkina-Lavrenko A.I., 1953):
Chaetoceros heterovalvatus Pr.-Lavr. sp. nova. (Pic. 1).
Descriptio. Cellulae cyliadricae, solitariae, inteidum, post divisionem binae singulariter quaternae, 12.5 — 20 µ ante divisionem ad 35 µ. altae. Valvae orbiculares. superior convexa, inferior concava, 5—8.75 in diametro. Setutae a valvae marginibus abeun tea; swperiores basi deorsum subincurvatae, mox axin cellulae perpendiculariter intensae, inferiores sub anulo acuto divergentes. Chromatophorie orbiculares discoidei 2—10. Sporae modo peculiari formatae. Ad sporas oriundas cellula altior fit protoplast rotundatur et per foramen in zona connectivali dispositum vesicae modo exit, sed a foramine non abrumpitur. In vesica statim spora fromatur. Valva sporae primaria regulariter convexa, verrucosa, marginae annulo punctato instructa. Valva secundaria media subconvexa, laevis.
Habitatio. In regione boreali-occidentali maris Nigri a limine fluminum Dnepr et Bug ad occasum 21 VIII et 10 IX 1951, in ostio flu-minis Bug et in limine Dnepr et Bug in V 1951 et VII 1951 et 1952 anno.
